Dear STCC members and friends,
Come and join us for a presentation on "Pioneering Climate Action: Thai-Swiss Cooperation and Carbon Credits under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement", by the Swiss Foundation for Climate Protection and Carbon Offset KliK and Energy Absolute, on 30 September 2022.
Thailand and Switzerland are starting a pioneer cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Thailand that go beyond Thailand's pledge under the Paris Agreement. To set the legal basis for this cooperation, the Thai and Swiss governments signed a bilateral cooperation agreement on climate protection in Bern, Switzerland, on 24 June 2022. "The agreement sets the framework to create an international carbon market that allows the Swiss Foundation for Climate Protection and Carbon Offset (KliK Foundation) to buy carbon credits from climate protection programmes which will be internationally transferred to help Switzerland to fulfil its internationally pledged climate protection commitments."
The first programme under this collaboration, the Bangkok E-Bus Programme, is ready to start. Under that programme, Energy Absolute, the programme owner, will introduce e-buses in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area. By purchasing the resulting emission reductions, KliK Foundation provides the necessary financial contribution to make the programme financially viable.
The KliK Foundation is interested in developing further suitable greenhouse gas reduction programmes in accordance with the bilateral cooperation agreement. To this end, the KliK Foundation would like to establish partnerships with companies performing in Thailand to initiate further programmes to reduce greenhouse gases in this country.
Dr. Jacqueline Jakob, Director International Relations at KliK Foundation, is traveling from Switzerland to Bangkok for the first mission since the signature of the bilateral agreement between 30 September and 7 October 2022. A presentation about the possibilities of collaboration under this framework will take place during the Sustainability Expo, on Friday 30 September 2022, at 4.00pm. Here is a brief outline:
