Dear Members and Friends of the STCC,
It is with great pride that I address you here in the Newsletter as President of the Swiss-Thai Chamber of Commerce (STCC). Having been elected to this position on 24 March 2022, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the man who has shaped and advanced the STCC over the past 7 ½ years, Khun Bruno G. Odermatt-Maag, our outgoing President. Under his leadership, the services and professionalization of our Chamber have greatly moved ahead. For all his efforts and initiatives, I am very grateful and it fills me with joy to have Khun Bruno continue as Director on the Board and as Special Advisor by my side.
I would now like to move on and present to you some of the things I envision for the STCC to achieve and move towards in the next two years. In doing so, I would like to implement a form of communication that I would like to actively encourage - interactive and two-way communication. That is why I have asked our Executive Director to interview me and keep the interests of our members and the business community in mind when he asks the questions.

| The Omicron wave and the Ukraine war have further set back Thailand’s recovery and prompted a downward revision of the World Bank’s growth projection to 2.9% in 2022. Inflation surged to a 13-year high on the back of rising global energy prices while consumer confidence fell to a 6-month low amid the Omicron wave. The government has announced new fiscal measures to help mitigate the rising cost of living. Foreign tourist visits increased in February as borders reopened but remains well below pre-COVID levels. The current account remained in deficit due to the large fuel and services trade deficit. The Thai baht continued to depreciate in April as US treasury yields surged and investor confidence waned. |

Thailand, like many countries around the world, is in the midst of a significant plastic waste crisis. In 2019, the Government of Thailand released the Roadmap for Plastic Waste Management 2018-2030 and is developing the National Action Plan on Marine Plastic Debris to alleviate the current impacts and avert future damage caused by marine plastic debris. While these efforts are critical steps toward reining in the country’s plastic pollution problem, further insight is needed into where the plastic waste comes from and how it moves in the environment.
This study presents the first large-scale assessment in Thailand to integrate national waste generation and waste management performance data with actual hydrological conditions to estimate how mismanaged plastic waste is carried and discharged into the marine environment. It aims to better understand how plastic waste travels from land-based sources to the marine environment by analyzing the material flow of plastic waste in five high-priority catchments (Phetchaburi, Mae Klong, Tha Chin, Chao Phraya and Bang Pakong) and three tourist hotspots (Krabi, Phuket and Ko Samui). |

It will take place at the Swissotel Rachada and is an ideal opportunity to meet again at the end of this low-contact school year for a joyful occasion and to celebrate together.
In view of the upcoming summer holidays, our teachers have put together a great and educational summer program for all students interested to have fun and practice the German language. The "German Summer" at the RIS Swiss Section offers a two-week summer camp for 4–12-year-olds titled "A Fairytale Adventure".
