Economic Outlook 2022
Economic Outlook 2022
In 2021, we witnessed the emergence of the Delta and Omicron; variants that continued to impose massive social and economic impacts on the world. Yet, as we adapt to the new norm, the global economy is back on track for a rapid recovery.

With rising inflation and a global supply chain crisis, what will the economy bring in 2022? Will these trends persist? What are the drivers of growth for recovery?

The panel of experts at the webinarshed light on the post-Covid recovery, the geopolitical situation in China, inflation in Switzerland and Singapore as well as other crucial questions for 2022.

In case you missed it you can find the recording here.

Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor - January 2022
Thailand Monthly Economic Monitor - January 2022
Omicron cases surged as Thailand neared its end-2021 mass vaccination target of seventy percent. The government tightened international travel restrictions but refrained from reimposing a national lockdown to support the ongoing economic recovery.

In Q4 2021, economic activity improved significantly but mobility fell in January as tighter restrictions were imposed. In the latest Thailand Economic Monitor, the World Bank projected economic growth to increase to 3.9 percent in 2022, but risks related to new variants remain.

With an expected economic recovery, fiscal support is projected to be less expansionary in FY22 despite recently announced measures. Inflation continued to climb due to supply-side disruptions while remaining within the Bank of Thailand’s target range.

Like other regional currencies, the Thai baht depreciated against the USD in December, despite net financial inflows to bond and equity markets.

Switzerland to abolish industrial tariffs from 2024
Bern – Import duties for industrial products in Switzerland will be removed from 2024 onward. The Federal Council expects the lifting of industrial tariffs to benefit Switzerland as an economic location and to promote recovery of the economy after the pandemic. It will be advantageous for both the domestic Swiss economy and the export industry.

Long periods of COVID-19 lockdowns and factory closures resulted in heavy congestion at ports in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Long shipping lines and docks stacked with containers illustrated Southeast Asia’s central importance to global supply chains.
